First paper cup factory launched
Rwanda has opened its first paper cup manufacturing plant in the Masoro Industrial Zone marking a major milestone for local manufacturing, import substitution, and sustainable packaging. The factory produces 100,000 biodegradable cups daily, with plans to scale to 500,000 within two years. Employment is set to grow from 20 to 300, supporting national job-creation goals. By offering eco-friendly, customizable cups, the plant advances the Made in Rwanda initiative and reduces reliance on imports. This launch aligns with Rwanda’s NST2 targets and reflects the nation’s rapidly expanding industrial sector, which has tripled output since 2017—strengthening its position as a regional manufacturing hub.
