Bèkske: delicious and honest specialty coffee!

Het Bèkske: Rwandan Empowerment Coffee stands for delicious and honest coffee. Delicious, because it concerns specialty coffee: the 5% most delicious coffee in the world. Het Bèkske – with a score of more than 85 – easily qualifies to achieve the minimum of 80 out of 100 points and thus falls into the ‘excellent’ category within the specialty coffees.

But Bèkske is also about quality coffee with a story: just drinking Bèkske makes an impact on the lives of Rwandan women who grow the coffee. Strong women working as entrepreneurs in the coffee business. No less than 39% of the proceeds go back to local entrepreneurs in Rwanda. That is 3 to 4 times more than usual with other coffee brands. In concrete terms, for our 75 women, this means that they receive an extra €1.00 per kilo (on top of the nationally determined $0.30 per kilo). They also receive guidance – through our partner organization Solace Ministries in Rwanda – in the sustainable and responsible cultivation of the coffee. For this, Bèkske has reserved €1.80 for every kilo of coffee sold. On top of all this, another 25% of the profit goes to the women, because they share in the profit as shareholders.

With Bèkske we contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 1 (ending poverty), 3 (good health and well-being), 4 (quality of education), 5 (gender equality and empowerment of women), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 12 (sustainable consumption and production).
