Rwanda’s Strawberry Boom

Rwanda’s strawberry industry is on a rapid rise, fueled by increasing global demand for the juicy, sweet fruit. Seizing this golden opportunity, local farmers are transforming their lives by turning strawberries into a highly profitable venture.

One such success story is Georgette Uwamariya, a visionary farmer from the Muhanga District in the Southern Province. Starting her strawberry journey in 2016, Uwamariya has seen just how rewarding this crop can be. Today, she runs a flourishing business, selling fresh strawberries and homemade jam in bustling local markets, where a single box of strawberries sells for Rwf2,300.

Her venture began with just 5 acres of land, but through hard work and determination, Uwamariya has expanded to an impressive 50 acres. Her production has soared to 150 kilograms of strawberries per week, proving that with the right vision and effort, strawberry farming can be a path to significant success.
