Five dream nights
From Akagera National Park and Lake Kivu to the ancient rainforest in Nyungwe, Rwanda offers a range of options for the perfect round trip and beautiful places to sleep can be found everywhere you go. We share five.
Rwanda is home to the friendly population, the enormous diversity of parks and landscapes and of course the mountain gorillas. If you are one of the lucky ones to meet the mighty animals up close, you will sleep near Volcanoes National Park. You have plenty of options here, but if you sleep in One & Only Gorilla Nest, you can consider yourself very lucky. You will find this luxurious residence on the edge of the park and the doors have been open since the end of last year.
One & Only Gorillas Nest has twenty-one rooms in fourteen forest lodges with one or two bedrooms, five Virunga Suites, one Ingagi Suite and one Silverback Suite. Meals are served in the Nest restaurant, which has both an indoor and outdoor area. Chef Bryan English and his team use local and mostly organic ingredients, grown by local farmers and in their own vegetable garden.
Are you taking a trip along Lake Kivu and planning to visit the coffee plantations in Kinunu? Then Rushel Kivu Lodge is a wonderful location to spend the night. You can arrive at the lodge by boat or by car, where it is a particularly bumpy journey by car and you drive past various villages. With the boat it is a lot more comfortable and you can enjoy the view over the lake. Rushel Kivu has six beautiful lodges, each with a view of the beach, the lake and the palm trees. Next to the lodge you can visit the coffee plantations and see how coffee is traditionally made.
When you arrive in Kigali, it is one hundred percent worthwhile to discover the capital. The green city is one of the most modern cities in Africa and is also called the Singapore of the continent. Discover the fashion in the city, visit one of the markets or take the red scooter to an art studio. Where do you sleep? In the Retreat by Heaven, a boutique hotel with twelve rooms, a swimming pool and two delightful restaurants. It is also Kigali’s first fully eco-friendly solar-powered hotel.
During your tour through Rwanda you can take a beautiful hike along Lake Kivu or enjoy the special views with a mountain bike. Along the lake there are several places where you can spend the night, Kivu Paradise Resort is one of them. Here too you can come by car as well as by boat / kayak. Prefer by water? Then you can board at Le Paradise in Kigufi and paddle the kayak of Kingfisher Journey towards paradise. Once you have arrived you can enjoy the view over the lake, the cozy restaurant, friendly staff and of course a special sunset. All rooms also have a view of Lake Kivu.
Rwanda is a special and diverse country with the east dominated by Akagera National Park. In one of the oldest protected natural parks in Africa, a game drive guarantees an unforgettable experience. From golden savannas and grasslands to swamps and mountain landscapes. You can spend the night in the new and small-scale Magashi Camp. Stay overnight in one of six luxury safari tents, all of which offer breathtaking views of Lake Rwanyakazinga. The main part of the camp consists of a lounge, dining and bar area, swimming pool and large terrace with fire pit.
