Rwanda Showcased Premium Fresh Produce at ‘Fruit Logistica 2025’
Rwanda made a strong impression at Fruit Logistica 2025, the world’s leading fresh produce trade fair, held from February 5-7 in Berlin, Germany. Led by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) and the Embassy of Rwanda in Germany, 16 top Rwandan fresh produce exporters seized the opportunity to showcase Rwanda’s high-quality fruits and vegetables on a global stage.
Expanding Markets & Strengthening Business Ties
Janet Basiima, Export Market Development and Innovation Division Manager at NAEB, highlighted the significance of the event:
“Fruit Logistica was one of the largest platforms for securing market opportunities, connecting with buyers, and exchanging knowledge. It provided an invaluable opportunity for Rwanda’s fresh produce industry to expand its reach.”
With 91 countries and over 115,000 exhibitors and visitors, the trade fair attracted key industry players, including major retailers, importers, and farmers.
Basiima also emphasized the critical role of RwandAir in ensuring timely and efficient delivery of Rwanda’s fresh produce to global markets:
“Our fruits and vegetables are highly perishable and require specialized transport. RwandAir played a vital role in guaranteeing efficient deliveries. For destinations beyond RwandAir’s reach, we collaborated with KLM and Ethiopian Airlines. We also conducted trial shipments of avocados to Dubai, and if successful, we planned to expand further.”
Rwanda’s Growing Footprint in the Global Fresh Produce Market
Rukundo Robert, founder of Almond Green Farm and Chairperson of the Horticulture Exporters Association of Rwanda (HEAR), underscored the importance of Rwanda’s participation in global trade fairs:
“Engaging with international partners helped us expand our market reach. It also allowed us to evaluate our progress and set new export targets. We appreciated the government’s continued support in securing opportunities like these.”
Angel Rugema Uwantege, a representative of Behave Foods and a regular exhibitor at Fruit Logistica, shared her experience:
“Each year, we gained valuable knowledge—whether in marketing strategies, climate change adaptation, or advanced farming techniques. This exposure kept us competitive in the global market.”
Rwanda’s Fresh Produce: A Global Success Story
Rwanda exported premium fruits and vegetables to major markets, including France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. This year’s showcase included avocados, chili, French beans, and passion fruit, all of which were in high demand internationally.
In 2024, Rwanda exported 97,165 tons of fresh produce, generating $75.1 million, accounting for 8.95% of total agricultural exports. The country’s overall agricultural exports continued to grow, with revenues exceeding $839.2 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
With its high-quality produce, efficient logistics, and commitment to sustainable farming, Rwanda strengthened its position as a key player in the global fresh produce market.
